Sustainability: not just a slogan for Prima Menü but rather a necessity

We at Prima Menü do not only talk about sustainability but make every active effort to ensure sensible use of environmental resources from procurement and production through to packaging and disposal of our products, and not to forget social and economic aspects.

In this conjunction we rely on focusing the issue of sustainability into those areas in which we, as a medium sized enterprise, have a direct positive influence and act true to our ultimate objective: start practiced sustainability on your own doorstep first!

Environmental Protection
FSC: sustainable forestry

The origin of raw materials used in products tends to play an increasing role to customers in the purchase of goods.Raw materials for carton packagings should originate from responsibly and ecologically managed forests and be produced in socially fair conditions.
Prima Menü supports the internationally recognized non-profit organization FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). In this context, we purchase our cardboard material for our tray packagings exclusively from sub-suppliers who purchase their wood from FSC sources certified in the sense of the FSC Guidelines.

Green energy: regenerative energy source

In association with the Düsseldorf public facility we are purchasing our total electricity requirements for 2010 on the basis of a Green Contract.
Green Contract is 100 % produced in regenerative power generation plants. There are no CO2 emissions during production.
We are thus acting in the sense of climate protection and will reduce CO2 emission by 1,100,000 kg/year!

Carton tray: recyclable allrounder

Consumers tend to consume in an environmental friendly manner when it appears worthwhile. Because, according to a GfK study, the product benefit as a whole is of major importance to the customer.
"Climate friendly" may possibly impact on the purchase decision, but will not take effect before the product turns out to be "profitable" to the customer on the bottom line.

This is where Prima Menü starts its comprehensive packaging concept: The products of the "Prima Komplett Menüs" brands are packed in so-called single and double carton trays which are not only favorable in price but also 90 % produced from renewable raw materials, thus reducing overall packaging costs to a minimum.
Apart from this advantage as regards sustainability, the carton trays offer quite a number of decisive advantages to the consumer:

Prima Menus can be quickly and easily prepared in the oven or microwave. Not only at home, but also at work because these products can be consumed direct from their packaging - without putting on another plate. This will save the consumer from washing up and enable him to consume balanced nutrition while eating out without any additional loss of time.

Employees

We regard our employees as co-partners doing their utmost every day and thus contributing to the success of our company. One example of Prima Menü policy toward their employees is our achievement oriented compensation scheme.
In addition, we have undertaken high investments in the qualification and continuous training of our employees. This helped us establish an efficient and flexible production company which is in a position to produce with little use of resources in a needs-based manner..

A good working climate and adequate payment are of great importance for both our employees' well-being as well as for our continued high quality performance.
Approximately a third of our permanent staff has been working for us for more than 10 years – a number which speaks for a high "feel-good factor".
